Michigan 11-Year-Old Expelled After Disarming Classmate with Gun
An 11-year-old Michigan student, identified as Sakir, is facing a year-long expulsion after taking decisive action when he saw a classmate with a firearm at school.
According to his family, Sakir noticed another student in possession of the weapon and instinctively intervened. Drawing from his hunting experience, Sakir reportedly disarmed the student, unloaded the gun, disassembled it, and disposed of the bullets to prevent potential harm.
Despite his actions preventing what could have been a dangerous situation, school administrators handed down a one-year expulsion, citing that Sakir did not report the gun to a teacher or staff member as required by policy.
Sakir’s mother described her son as an A/B student, respectful, and a dedicated athlete who has been involved in sports since age six. She emphasized that he has no prior disciplinary issues.
Currently, Sakir is enrolled in a non-accredited online program to keep up with his studies while the family searches for solutions to continue his education.
The expulsion has sparked debate in the community, raising questions about zero-tolerance policies in schools and whether students who act to prevent harm should face the same consequences as those who pose the threat.
